Resize Video for Social Media
Make your launch film once, then export it for every channel. Spotlight outputs the same project in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5 as 1080p MP4 — and only re-renders the scenes you changed.
What the social video resizer does
A launch doesn’t happen on one channel. The same week you post on Product Hunt you’ll want a landscape cut for your site and YouTube, a vertical cut for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, and a square or portrait cut for LinkedIn and Instagram feeds. Rebuilding the film for each is slow; simply cropping a 16:9 export usually cuts off the UI you were trying to show.
Spotlight lets you resize video for social media from the same project. Your scenes, script, voiceover, music and captions stay the same; you switch the aspect ratio, check the layout, and export.
| Format | Export size | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 16:9 landscape | 1920 × 1080 | YouTube, website, product page, Product Hunt |
| 9:16 vertical | 1080 × 1920 | Reels, TikTok, Shorts, Stories |
| 1:1 square | 1080 × 1080 | Feeds, LinkedIn |
| 4:5 portrait | 1080 × 1350 | Instagram feed, LinkedIn feed |
Platform recommendations change — check each platform’s current guidance before you publish. Our launch video length by platform guide covers durations too.
How it works
- Finish your main cut in the format you’ll use most — usually 16:9 for a launch.
- Switch the aspect ratio to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5.
- Preview every scene. Look for UI that sits too close to the edge, text that wraps awkwardly, or overlays that now cover something important.
- Adjust. Drag overlays, move zoom regions so the key element stays in frame, or shorten long headlines for narrower formats.
- Export. Each format downloads as a 1080p MP4. Because only scenes you changed are re-rendered, re-exports are fast.
What you control
- Framing per format — zoom-to-region focus and camera moves keep the important part of the screen in view.
- Overlays — draggable text, badge, arrow and logo overlays you can reposition for each shape.
- Length — a vertical social cut often works best shorter; use a whole-film AI instruction like “cut this to 20 seconds” to make a tighter version.
- Captions — burned in on every format, plus an .srt file. See auto captions.
- Version history — restore any earlier version if a change for one format doesn’t suit another.
Who it’s for
Founders running a launch across Product Hunt, X, LinkedIn and Reels; app makers who need vertical app promos; SaaS teams publishing feature announcements on several channels; and agencies delivering a full set of formats to each client.
Tips for multi-format launches
- Design for the narrowest frame. If a scene works in 9:16, it will almost always work in 16:9. The reverse is rarely true.
- Zoom in for vertical. Full desktop screenshots are unreadable on a phone in 9:16; zoom to the element that matters.
- Front-load the hook on social cuts. Feeds give you a second or two — open on the result.
- Keep text inside safe areas. Platform interfaces overlay buttons and captions near the edges of vertical video.
- Name files clearly — product-launch-9x16.mp4 — so the right cut goes to the right place on launch day.
Plans
The Free plan exports a watermarked 540p preview. A Launch Pass (€39 / $39 one-off) unlocks one video in 1080p without the watermark, in every aspect ratio, with unlimited re-exports of that video (fair use: 30 HD exports). Creator and Studio include 3 and 12 HD videos a month. See pricing.
