Cadenzova Spotlight vs Rotato
Rotato is a Mac app for 3D device-mockup animations — the spinning phone or laptop shot. Spotlight makes the whole launch video, including device mockup scenes, from your website and screens. One is a specialist shot; the other is the full film.
Spotlight vs Rotato at a glance
Rotato does one thing and does it well: animating your screens inside 3D device mockups. Spotlight is broader — a full launch video studio that includes device mockup scenes among 14 scene types.

A specialist shot vs a complete film
A 3D device mockup is a great moment in a launch video — a phone rotating into view with your app on screen instantly says "real product". Rotato is built for exactly that, and it gives Mac users a lot of control over the shot.
But a launch video is a sequence: a hook, the problem, the product in action, the features that matter, proof and a call to action. Rotato makes one kind of shot; you still need to write, assemble, voice, score and caption the film. Spotlight does the whole job, and its device mockup scene type and device frames cover the common mockup moments without leaving the editor.
There is also the question of formats. A launch usually needs a 16:9 cut for your landing page and Product Hunt, a 9:16 cut for vertical feeds, and often a square or 4:5 cut for LinkedIn and X. In Spotlight, those are exports of the same project rather than separate edits.
Where Spotlight is different
- The whole story, planned for you. Spotlight reads your website, studies your screenshots and recordings, then writes the script and plans every scene.
- Device frames in a full toolkit. Device mockup scenes sit alongside title, logo reveal, feature grid, comparison, stat, quote and end-card scenes, with camera moves and 11 transitions.
- Sound and captions included. AI voiceover, AI music or your own track, sound effects and burned-in captions.
- Every platform. Works in the browser on Windows, Linux, ChromeOS and Mac.
- App store and social ready. Export 9:16 for App Store preview videos and social, plus 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5.
Device moments are planned as part of the story: the AI director picks the key screens for the film, and you decide which to show in a device frame and which to show full-screen with a zoom into one feature.
When to choose Rotato
- You want bespoke 3D device animations with more control over the 3D shot than a general video editor gives.
- You are on a Mac and prefer a one-time purchase to a subscription.
- You need short device-mockup animations of your app, not a full narrated video.
- You already have an editor for assembling the rest of the film.
Using Rotato and Spotlight together
If you love Rotato's look, keep it. Export a short Rotato animation as a video, upload it to Spotlight, and use it as a video clip scene — perhaps as the opening hook or the reveal before your end card. Spotlight's AI director plans the rest of the film around it, and you add voiceover, music and captions on top. This gives you a signature 3D shot inside a complete, every-format app promo video.
If you are launching on Product Hunt the same week, the Product Hunt template gives you a ready-made structure to drop the Rotato clip into.
Pricing compared
Rotato is a one-time purchase of about $79–
99 at the time of writing (check their pricing page), which is attractive if you use it often and are on a Mac. Spotlight is free to try, then priced per video: €39/$39 one-off for one HD video without a watermark, or Creator (€39/$39 a month, 3 HD videos) and Studio (€79/$79 a month, 12 HD videos) for regular output.Compare like with like, though. With Rotato you will usually still need an editor, a voiceover and music to turn the shot into a finished film; in Spotlight those are part of the same project. And if you dislike subscriptions, Spotlight's Launch Pass is subscription-free too.
Verdict
Rotato is a specialist tool for 3D mockup shots on a Mac; Spotlight is a complete launch video studio that runs anywhere. If you need one stunning device shot, Rotato is excellent value. If you need the finished video, start with Spotlight — and bring a Rotato clip along if you have one.
